Microchipping

Icon for microchipping your pet

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice, and is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. Once implanted, the chip provides a 15 digit number unique to your pet.

We will assist you to register your pet with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR). This register links your pets unique number to your contact details. Vet clinics and SPCAs have access to this database, so if your lost pet's microchip is scanned, you can be contacted.

It is a legal requirement in New Zealand that all dogs are microchipped within 2 months of being registered (excluding farm dogs used for stock control).
