Welcome Bay Vets
Welcome Bay Vets are your local, family-owned veterinary clinic in the heart of Welcome Bay, Tauranga.
The Welcome Bay Veterinary Clinic has been caring for the pets of Welcome Bay, Tauranga, for over 35 years. We have always been a genuinely local family-owned clinic, where it feels less like a clinic and more like a home.
Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or to schedule an appointment.
Our story started in 1986, when a sole practitioner began a small veterinary service from her home. In time, the business was moved onto the current site at 58 Welcome Bay Road.
In 1988 Dr John Drummond and his wife Donna bought the business, and under his leadership Welcome Bay Vets grew and thrived. It wasn't long before they outgrew the building, and John - with the help of his mum and dad - took off the roof, all the walls, every window and door, and rebuilt to double the building's size. The original kitchen sink was left intact!
This renovation created the iconic Intalok building that remains today. While developing the business and vetting, John (with the help of his daughter and friends) also found time to make the well-known roadside signs that have brought a smile to commuters for many years. John, Donna and their two children Amy and Andrew lived behind the clinic, and for years he helped the animals of Welcome Bay at all hours. To the delight of the local community, John and his family started the Christmas Light Display, a tradition that still runs today.
John was the owner/operator for an amazing 36 years, over which time he provided an outstanding service to the local community and enabled a wonderful small local business to thrive. Some of the amazing support staff have been with Welcome Bay Vets for almost this long, and help to make the clinic such a special, welcoming place.
In 2024, Dr Hannah Bain and her husband Darren took ownership of Welcome Bay Vets. Hannah and Darren live in rural Welcome Bay, their kids attend Welcome Bay School, and they are excited to have the opportunity to carry on the family-owned local feel of the clinic, and to support the Welcome Bay pet community. They are looking forward to continuing the Christmas Light Display - look out for this year's display from mid-November, or keep an eye on our Welcome Bay Vet Clinic Facebook page.
