Most children are familiar with the dogs they know and love. But would they know what to do if an unfamiliar or loose dog approached them? Or if a dog growled while they were playing with it?
These are the kinds of everyday situations that Dog Smart Kids is designed to help children understand.
Back for the school holidays, this interactive workshop helps primary school-aged children learn how dogs communicate and how to make safer choices around both familiar and unfamiliar dogs.
What will children learn?
The workshop covers practical skills and real-life situations, including:
How to read dog body language
How to recognise when a dog needs space
What to do around unfamiliar or loose dogs
Making safer choices around dogs with food, toys or other items
What to do around dogs behind fences or tied up outside shops
How to behave when meeting dogs while out and about
Rather than simply sitting and listening, children will take part in games, activities and real-life scenarios designed to get them thinking, moving and involved.
The aim is to give children the confidence and knowledge to better understand dogs and make safer choices around them.
